Every season, the runways dazzle us with numerous new trends, but let’s be honest—many of them aren’t practical for our everyday lives. That’s why I’ve narrowed down the top 12 wearable summer fashion trends you need to know about, and how to effortlessly incorporate them into your wardrobe this summer.
Many of these trends are just old trends having a resurgence. In fact, fashion trends have a way of cycling back every few years. That’s why it’s essential to choose the trends that seamlessly integrate into your everyday style and can be worn for years to come.
1. Drop Waist Dresses
The drop waist dress is making an epic comeback this summer. This silhouette elongates the body and provides a relaxed, flattering fit. Perfect for both casual outings and more formal events, these dresses can be found in a variety of fabrics, from lightweight cotton to elegant silk and in different lengths.
Styling Tip: If you have a pear-shaped body, focus on accentuating the upper body to balance out your look and draw attention to your upper body. Opt for drop waist dresses with interesting necklines, off-the-shoulder styles or simply add a statement necklace.
2. Tie Front Tops
Whether you’re scrolling through social media or walking down the street, I’m sure you’ve come across the tie front top. Thanks to Scandinavian brands like Ganni, the front tie tops have gone completely viral this summer.
Whether you choose a bold pattern or a solid color, these tops add a playful twist to any outfit and are perfect alternative to the classic white tee.
Styling Tip: As these tops usually come paired with puffed sleeves or peplums, it’s better to style them with wide leg trousers or jeans to balance out the look. They also pair nicely with shorts, mini or maxi skirts.
3. Tortoiseshell Sunglasses
Tortoiseshell sunglasses have always been in fashion as they are considered timeless, but they are definitely having a moment in summer 2024. My favorite pair is from Vehla Eyewear, but if you want a more affordable alternative these amazon tortoise sunglasses have gotten me many compliments and they’re only 9$.
Whether you opt for oversized frames, or retro aviator style, tortoiseshell sunglasses will add a stylish touch to any outfit.
Styling Tip: Tortoise shell sunglasses look best with basic neutral outfits, as colorful and patterned outfits might clash with the detailing of the sunglasses.
4. Waistcoats/Vests
Probably my favorite trend this season! Waistcoats are no longer just for workwear. This summer, they’re taking center stage as an easy to style and versatile piece. Pair a tailored long waistcoat with linen trousers or maxi skirt for a relaxed classy outfit, or pair a vest over a crisp white shirt for a chic summer work outfit.
Styling Tip: If you are on the shorter side, choose a tailored short waistcoat that cinches you at the waist instead of the longer oversized ones and pair it with a mini skirt or a pair of high waist trousers for a balanced chic look.
5. Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts have been trending since last summer and have become a summer staple, offering both comfort and style. However, this year we are seeing them in different fabrics from satin to linen to denim and lace.
Styling Tip: If you have an inverted triangle body shape, opt for maxi skirts with volume like ruffles and A line styles that draw attention downward and balance out your broad shoulders.
6. Woven Bags
Woven bags are getting so trendy lately and are becoming a summer essential. This trend may have started with Bottega Venetta, but brands like Dragon Diffusion are now offering a variety of shapes and colors, making these stylish bags more accessible without the hefty price tag.
If you want a change from the usual straw bag, woven bags are a great choice as they add a natural element yet can be dressed up or down easily. From large totes to small crossbody bags, these bags are both functional and stylish.
Styling Tip: Woven bags pair nicely with basic outfits and flowy summer dresses as they add the perfect touch of texture and structure to any outfit.
7. Milkmaid Dresses
Thanks to the men on TikTok naming this style of dress the most attractive, milkmaid dresses are taking over summer 2024. and I couldn’t agree more! There is something about milkmaid dresses that is just so dreamy.
Their blend of feminine and romantic silhouettes, combined with unparalleled comfort and timeless appeal, makes them a must-have. Characterized by their puffed sleeves, square necklines, and cinched waists, these dresses are the epitome of effortless feminine allure.
Styling Tip: Because of the feminine nature of milkmaid dresses, choosing the right footwear can make or break your outfit.
For a casual, laid-back look, go for espadrilles, strappy sandals, or classic Mary Jane flats. If you’re aiming for a more sophisticated and chic style, opt for a pair of stylish heels. You can also pair your milkmaid dress with cowboy boots for that coastal cowgirl vibe.
8. Linen Sets
This one may not come as a surprise as we’ve seen linen sets a lot in the last few seasons. These matching linen sets offer both style and comfort. They are also perfect for hot summer days because of the lightweight, and breathable material of linen.
This year we are seeing linen sets in different variations from vests and skirts to shirts and pants and in different patterns and colors.
Styling Tip: When buying white linen pants/shorts look for a lined pair that will ensure its not see through. after searching for the perfect pair for years, I can finally say this dish linen pants are THE BEST option on the market at this price point.
9. Bermuda Shorts
This is a trend I didn’t expect to see but I’m here for it! Bermuda shorts are back and better than ever. These knee-length shorts offer a stylish alternative to shorter styles and can be dressed up or down.
You can pair denim Bermuda shorts with a graphic t-shirt for a casual look or go for a striped Bermuda paired with a linen blazer for a chic office outfit.
Styling Tip: while this trend leans more towards the oversized Bermuda shorts, choose a fit and length that flatters your figure the most.
10. Colorful Silk Scarfs
Add a pop of color to any outfit with a silk scarf. This versatile accessory can be worn in countless ways: as a headband, tied around your bag, or even as a belt. This summer, the ’90s vibe is making a comeback, with many girls styling silk scarves as headscarves.
Styling Tip: If you are not loving the headscarf trend, you can tie the scarf around your neck and pair it with a
dress for a chic look.
11. Crochet Clothing
I hesitated to include this, because anything crochet have become a summer staple the last couple of years. but its undeniably one of the biggest trends this season. Crochet pieces are ideal for hot summer days as they add a bohemian and chic touch to any outfit.
From crochet tops and dresses to bikinis, this versatile trend comes in various styles and patterns. However, this year we are seeing crochet beyond beach essentials and incorporated more in everyday styling.
Styling Tip: Avoid wearing see through knitted pieces for work as they are not considered suitable for the work environment.
12. Mary Jane/Ballet Flats
These classic ballet flats are making a comeback, and I don’t think they are going anywhere soon. Ballet flats are an elegant and practical option for summer footwear that can be styled with so many outfits.
Whether you choose mesh flats, traditional Mary jane or embellished flats, these shoes will offer you comfort and add a feminine touch to any outfit.
Styling Tip: Avoid metallic ballet flats with rhinestones as they look outdated and will overwhelm any outfit, instead choose a more subtle metallic flat that will elevate any outfit.
The same goes for Mary jane flats, if you want a pair that is easy to style and will effortlessly match all your outfits, avoid the ones with multiple straps and instead opt for the traditional one strap Mary janes.

Final Thoughts
As with every trend forecast, I love to end with this note: Before you head out shopping, explore your own closet. Most of these summer fashion trends we already have in our closet or can easily be found in a vintage or thrift store.
Maybe it’s that crochet top you haven’t worn in years or your mother’s vintage silk scarf. It’s all about finding the pieces that have been tucked away to the side and see how you can incorporate them this season.
